FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I turn my existing hardwood to a grey stain?
With a complete sand and finish process. We use various finishes like Rubio Monocoat (Fumed), Loba HS 2k ImpactOil, DuraSeal Stains, Bona Stains, and Ciranova to achieve your perfect color.
How does pricing work?
Pricing depends on the scope of work — square footage, floor condition, type of service (new install, sand & finish, buff & coat), and materials selected. We provide clear, itemized written estimates before any work begins. Call us or schedule a showroom visit for a quote.
When is payment due?
For material orders, payment is due in full at the time of order to reserve your product. For installation projects, we'll outline payment terms clearly in your estimate before work begins.
How long does a complete sand and refinish take? Most residential sand and refinish projects take 2–3 days depending on square footage and the number of coats applied. We use a 4-coat process. Floors need to cure for 24–48 hours after the final coat before furniture can be moved back in.
Do I need to leave my home during refinishing? We recommend it. Sanding generates dust and finish fumes even with our dustless equipment. Most clients plan to be out of the space for 2–3 days. We'll give you a clear timeline before we start so you can plan accordingly.
What's the difference between a buff & coat and a full sand and refinish? A buff & coat screens the existing finish surface and applies a fresh coat on top — it restores shine and adds protection without removing any wood. It's a one-day service. A full sand and refinish removes the existing finish completely down to bare wood, allowing for stain color changes, deeper scratch removal, and a completely fresh start. We'll recommend the right option based on your floor's condition.
What's the difference between SPC and hardwood? Hardwood is real wood — it can be sanded and refinished multiple times over decades and adds lasting value to a home. SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) is 100% waterproof, more scratch resistant, and lower cost per square foot. It's ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and rental properties. We carry both and can help you decide which is right for your space.
Can you match my existing floors for a repair or addition? In most cases yes. We spot-sand to match existing finishes and carry a wide stain color library. Bring in a photo or a loose plank if you have one and we'll find the closest match. For larger additions, we'll source the closest species and width available.
How far in advance should I book? We recommend reaching out 2–4 weeks ahead for most projects. During busy seasons (spring and fall) we book up faster, so the earlier the better. Call us at (415) 661-1571 or schedule an appointment online.
Do you work with general contractors and real estate agents? Yes — a significant part of our business is working as a flooring subcontractor for GCs and helping agents get homes market-ready quickly. We understand job site coordination, timelines, and the importance of reliable communication. Reach out directly to discuss trade pricing and scheduling.
Do you loan out samples?
