Refresh Your Floors Without Full Refinishing
If your floors are losing their shine but don't have deep scratches or stains, a buff and coat — also called screen and recoat — is the most cost-effective way to restore their luster. It's faster and less expensive than full refinishing, and it extends the life of your floor's finish significantly.
What Is a Buff & Coat?
A buff and coat involves lightly scuffing (screening) the existing finish to create adhesion, then applying one or two new coats of finish on top. No sanding down to bare wood. No stain change. Just a fresh, protective layer that makes your floors look new again.
Is Buff & Coat Right for Your Floors?
Buff and coat works best when:
The finish is dull or lightly worn but not through to the wood
There are no deep scratches, gouges, or stains
You want to extend time between full refinishes
You're preparing a home for sale and need a quick, affordable refresh
If your floors have deep scratches, pet stains, or significant wear through to the wood, full refinishing will be necessary. We'll give you an honest assessment during our estimate visit.
How Long Does It Take?
A buff and coat for a standard room can be completed in one day. Floors are ready for light foot traffic within a few hours and fully cured within 24–48 hours.
