Sanding is the most critical step in any refinishing project. Done correctly, it removes years of scratches, stains, and worn finish to reveal fresh, bare wood underneath. Done incorrectly, it creates uneven surfaces, chatter marks, and sanding lines that show through the new finish.

At Golden Bay Floors, our crew has sanded thousands of floors across San Francisco. We use professional-grade drum sanders, edgers, and detail tools to achieve a consistently flat, smooth surface — the foundation of a flawless finish.

Dustless Sanding

We use vacuum-equipped sanding equipment that captures the vast majority of dust at the source. While no floor sanding process is 100% dust-free, our equipment dramatically reduces the dust in your home compared to traditional sanding methods.

Floor Sanding Process

• Initial inspection to identify problem areas, protruding nails, and damaged boards

• Coarse sanding pass to remove existing finish and level the surface

• Medium sanding pass to remove coarse scratches

• Fine sanding pass for a smooth, ready-to-finish surface

• Edge sanding to reach walls and corners

• Hand scraping and detail work around vents and tight areas

• Final screening/buffing before finish application

Sanding is included in all of our refinishing projects. If you've had sanding done elsewhere and just need finishing, we offer finish-only services as well.
